Today is my birthday so I wanted to share something important with all of you –

Throughout the years, my growth was possible after I started to prioritize what’s important to me. When I was concerned with everyone else’s well-being, I suffered and wasn’t happy. It’s only when I put my mental, physical, and emotional state number one that I started to see what matters. Understanding what matters allowed me to make the right decisions, especially, the ones which made me happy.

Here’s the thing,

Self-care is a vital part of growth and without it, you’ll remain stagnant. You’ll remain in a place you’re NOT happy. You’ll remain in a place you’re NOT content (in a state of peaceful happiness). It’s time you put yourself number one and prioritize what needs to be done to better yourself. If you don’t, you’ll remain exactly where you are mentally, emotionally, and physically.

Negative energy will shift your mood. 🙁

Negative energy will come from a lot of places “especially” those around you. When diagnosed with bipolar disorder, you are told to avoid situations which impact your life causing stress, and anxiety. Both will trigger episodes and will worsen your condition. However, even though you know this, it’s hard to control the actions of others so you can only take responsibility for what you do.

You need to educate and build yourself to a point where the actions of others do NOT affect your mood. You need to build confidence and live in the present so the past doesn’t affect your mood. You need to occupy your mind thinking about what needs to be done going forward “NOT” what has been done to you in the past.

When you learn to dictate your own mood, you start to live a joyous life. You start to live life where you control bipolar disorder and it doesn’t control you. 🙂

Several years back, after my bipolar diagnosis in January 2000, it was tough because I didn’t know what to expect. Personally, I didn’t think I would ever be happy because there’s this stigma associated with someone living with bipolar. People think when someone has bipolar they are damaged goods and can’t excel at things that others are excelling at. Anyways, I’m here to tell you they are completely wrong. By doing this, you attract positive energy into your life and know there is light at the end of the tunnel.
